Furniture Adjacent Sculptures
These works co-opt the language of common household forms while foregrounding their own construction. The materials for these works are salvaged from local woodshops or sourced secondhand before they enter the waste stream.
Inexpensive materials like pine, plywood, and MDF are left in various states of finishes to reinforce the process of recycling material and to elevate materials usually considered lower quality. In addition, visible fasteners, exposed wires, and “unfinished” sections place emphasis on the hand-crafted and custom-built quality of the work. I am interested in recycling, repurposing, and remaking disposable forms and materials in order to give a second life, and heightened meaning to these objects.
See these works arranged in my installation Room Set.
